Conferences and Workshops
Numerous conferences are hosted throughout the academic calendar year. Each conference provides a unique opportunity to interact with community college counterparts from around the state, to learn about current trends and topics, and to explore services and technologies that support educational efforts.
ADA/Support Services/Work-Based Learning Coordinators Conference
The annual Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Support Services/Work-Based Learning Coordinators Conference, which typically takes place in February each year, provides networking and professional development for community college ADA, support services, Title IX, and work-based learning coordinators. Conference topics are related to a variety of support services issues and hot topics at community college campuses.
Office of Adult Education (AE) Summer Conference
The AE Summer Conference is geared toward all AE staff in the state and provides opportunities for networking, learning, and planning in order to strengthen programs and practices at the state and local level. Conference strands include: federal requirements, state program guidelines, math, reading, ESL, Smart Start, monitoring, data, accountability, and innovation in AE. The conference audience includes Adult Education directors, instructors, and support staff. It takes place each year in June.
Creating Futures Through Technology Conference
The Creating Futures Through Technology Conference and Trade Show (CFTTC) hosts IT professionals, educators and technology providers to explore the application of information technology in higher education by sharing ideas and solutions to today’s educational technology challenges. The CFTTC is Mississippi’s only statewide higher ed technology conference and trade show. Working in partnership with the National Science Foundation, this conference has participants attending from over a dozen states to gain access to information from STEM programs and funding opportunities plus much, much more. CFTTC is held in the spring of each year. Attendees include administrators and faculty from the community colleges and universities, (in state and out-of-state), technology directors, workforce directors, career/technical directors and K12 attendees and administrators.
Data Conference
The purpose of the Data Conference is to present changes in the upcoming year’s Audit Manual, to discuss new issues confronting colleges, and to provide outside resources, for example, Department of Education (DOE), software vendors, etc, that may be able to assist with the daily needs and/or unique circumstances faced by the colleges. The Data Conference is held annually during the first week of June. Its primary audience consists of registrars, admissions staff, institutional research (IR) staff, and technical/programming staff.
Workforce and CTE Annual Conference
The Workforce and Career Technical Education is the largest gathering of career technical educators and administrators and college workforce personnel in the state. The conference affords stakeholders the opportunity to receive the latest information regarding equipment, curriculum, instruction, and assessment in career and technical education and workforce training. This conference is attended annually by participants from all 15 Mississippi community colleges. Attendees include college presidents, career technical education deans and directors, workforce project managers, career technical faculty, and vice presidents of Instruction.
